Preventive care

Smyle Dental – Dr. David Zaghi / General Dentistry

General Dentistry in Santa Clarita, CA

Smyle Dental Newhall handles the routine side of dentistry: exams, professional cleanings, fillings and preventive care. It is the least dramatic work we do and the most valuable, because problems caught at a check-up tend to be smaller, simpler and easier on your budget than problems that get time to grow.

What we treat

General dentistry services offered in Santa Clarita

01

Routine exams and check-ups

A thorough look at your teeth, gums and bite, not a quick glance and a wave through. Dr. Zaghi checks existing fillings and crowns, looks for early decay and gum changes, and tells you plainly what he sees, including when the honest answer is that nothing needs doing.

02

Professional cleanings

Even careful brushing leaves tartar behind, and once it hardens no toothbrush will shift it. A professional cleaning clears the buildup that feeds gum disease, polishes away surface stains, and gives us a close look at the spots you cannot see in a mirror.

03

Fillings

When decay breaks through the enamel, a filling stops it there. The damaged part of the tooth is removed and the space is filled with a tooth-coloured material shaped to your bite. Caught early, most cavities are dealt with in a single short appointment.

04

Sealants and fluoride

Two simple treatments that make teeth harder to attack. Sealants coat the deep grooves of back teeth where a brush struggles to reach, and fluoride strengthens enamel against the acid it faces every day. Both take minutes at a regular visit, with no drilling and no numbing.

05

Digital x-rays

Some problems hide where no exam light reaches: between teeth, under old fillings, below the gum line. Digital x-rays show what the eye cannot, at a fraction of the radiation of the old film systems, with the images on screen moments after they are taken.

06

Oral cancer screening

A short, simple check of your tongue, cheeks, gums and throat for anything that does not look right, built into a routine exam. Most screenings find nothing, which is the point: anything unusual gets spotted early, when there are far more options for dealing with it.

Why the routine visit is the one that matters

Most dental problems do not announce themselves. Decay works quietly under the surface, gum disease rarely hurts until it is established, and by the time a tooth aches the fix is usually bigger than it needed to be. A routine exam is how problems get found while they are still small.

Smyle Dental Newhall books unhurried appointments: an exam, x-rays where they will actually inform a decision, a proper cleaning, and a plain explanation of anything we find. If something needs treatment, you see the options and the cost in writing first. If nothing needs doing, we say so and see you at the next check-up.

New patients usually start with the $99 comprehensive exam and full set of x-rays, which gives Dr. Zaghi the complete picture before anything is planned. From there, most people settle into a simple rhythm of check-ups and cleanings, which is exactly how dentistry is supposed to work.

Why people stay

Six things we do differently

01

Good with nervous patients

First visits are booked longer on purpose so nothing is rushed, and we stop the moment you raise a hand. Most new patients tell us they have put this off for years.

02

You see the plan before the drill

Images, options and the cost in writing first. The least invasive option that actually solves the problem is the one we recommend.

03

Two offices, one dentist

Santa Clarita and Bakersfield run to the same standard with Dr. Zaghi at both. Book whichever is closer, or move between them.

04

932 Google reviews, 4.9 stars

The average dentist in Bakersfield sits at 4.3 stars across a handful of reviews. This practice holds 4.9 across 932 reviews, 822 in Bakersfield and 110 in Santa Clarita.

05

We file your insurance claims for you

You may be able to use your own dental insurance if you have a policy that allows you to choose your own dentist. If this is the case, we are happy to file your insurance claims for you so that you can be reimbursed by your insurance company.

06

Same-day emergency slots

Both offices hold time open each day for pain, swelling and breakages, because those never arrive on a convenient schedule.

1How often should I come in for a check-up?

Every six months suits most people. Some mouths need more frequent visits for a while, for example when gum disease is being brought under control, and some stretch longer comfortably. Dr. Zaghi will tell you honestly which applies to you rather than putting everyone on the same schedule.

2What happens at a first visit?

A comprehensive exam, a full set of x-rays and time to talk. New patients can start with the $99 exam and x-ray offer, and if anything needs attention you get the findings explained in plain language and the cost in writing before any work is planned.

3Do I really need x-rays?

Not at every visit, and not by default. X-rays are how decay between teeth, trouble under old fillings and changes in the bone get found before they hurt, so we take them when they will actually change a decision, using digital sensors that keep the radiation dose low.

4What is an oral cancer screening like?

Quick and unremarkable. Dr. Zaghi checks your tongue, cheeks, gums, throat and neck for anything unusual as part of the exam. It adds a few minutes, needs nothing beyond a light and a mirror, and most screenings simply confirm that everything looks normal.

5Do you take my insurance?

You may be able to use your own dental insurance if you have a policy that allows you to choose your own dentist. If this is the case, we are happy to file your insurance claims for you so that you can be reimbursed by your insurance company.

6I am nervous about the dentist. What do you do differently?

First visits are booked longer on purpose so nothing is rushed, and we stop the moment you raise a hand. Most new patients tell us they have put this off for years.

Still not sure?Ask us before you book. Smyle Dental Newhall will answer.
