Smyle Dental – Dr. David Zaghi / Gum Disease

Gum Disease Treatment in Santa Clarita, CA

Gum disease is a bacterial infection that gradually erodes the gum tissue and the bone holding your teeth in place. Left alone it leads to tooth loss, and it has been linked to heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Smyle Dental Newhall treats it at every stage, starting with the least invasive option that will actually resolve it.

What we treat

Gum disease services offered in Santa Clarita

01

Periodontal disease treatment that targets the cause

Gum disease is bacteria living in pockets your toothbrush cannot reach. Treating the surface does nothing about that. We measure every pocket, chart where the problem actually sits, and treat those sites directly, then re-measure to prove it worked.

02

Scaling and root planing, the deep clean

This is the treatment that stops early gum disease progressing. Hardened deposit is removed from below the gumline and the root surface is smoothed so the gum can reattach. Numbing is used throughout and it is far less unpleasant than it sounds.

03

Dental scaling below the gumline

A routine cleaning handles what is above the gum. Scaling reaches what is underneath, which is where the damage is being done. Ultrasonic instruments break up the deposit with less scraping than the older hand-tool approach.

04

Professional cleaning, and how to hold the ground

Treatment gets the gums healthy. Keeping them that way is daily work at home plus regular visits to Newhall. We will show you exactly where you are missing, because everyone misses somewhere, and it is rarely where people assume.

05

Gingivitis caught before it becomes periodontitis

Bleeding when you brush is the early stage and it is genuinely reversible at that point. Left alone it moves on to bone loss, which is not reversible. This is the single best reason not to skip a check-up.

06

Ongoing maintenance after treatment

Once pockets are under control, gums need reviewing more often than the standard six months, usually every three to four. It is a shorter appointment and it is what stops the whole thing coming back.

How we treat gum disease, step by step

Smyle Dental Newhall follows the same systematic approach every time, so you always know what stage you are at. We start with a full periodontal assessment, measuring the pockets around each tooth and taking images to see the bone level underneath.

That assessment decides the treatment. Early-stage gingivitis often resolves with professional cleaning and a change to your home routine. Moderate to advanced disease is treated with scaling and root planing, usually across more than one visit so nothing is rushed.

Afterwards we re-measure. If the pockets have shrunk and the bleeding has stopped, you move onto a maintenance interval. If an area has not responded, we tell you plainly and discuss what comes next rather than repeating the same treatment and hoping.

Why people stay

Six things we do differently

01

Good with nervous patients

First visits are booked longer on purpose so nothing is rushed, and we stop the moment you raise a hand. Most new patients tell us they have put this off for years.

02

You see the plan before the drill

Images, options and the cost in writing first. The least invasive option that actually solves the problem is the one we recommend.

03

Two offices, one dentist

Santa Clarita and Bakersfield run to the same standard with Dr. Zaghi at both. Book whichever is closer, or move between them.

04

932 Google reviews, 4.9 stars

The average dentist in Bakersfield sits at 4.3 stars across a handful of reviews. This practice holds 4.9 across 932 reviews, 822 in Bakersfield and 110 in Santa Clarita.

05

We file your insurance claims for you

You may be able to use your own dental insurance if you have a policy that allows you to choose your own dentist. If this is the case, we are happy to file your insurance claims for you so that you can be reimbursed by your insurance company.

06

Same-day emergency slots

Both offices hold time open each day for pain, swelling and breakages, because those never arrive on a convenient schedule.

In their own words

I had a great experience at this dental office. The staff is welcoming, professional, and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. The dentist took the time to explain everything clearly and answered all my questions, which …

1My gums bleed when I brush. Is that serious?

It is your gums telling you something is wrong, and it is worth acting on. Caught at the bleeding stage it is usually reversible. Ignored for a year or two it becomes bone loss, which is not. Book a check at Newhall rather than waiting to see if it settles.

2What is the difference between a cleaning and a deep cleaning?

A cleaning polishes what is above the gumline. A deep clean goes underneath it to where the bacteria are actually causing damage, and it is done with the area numbed. One is maintenance, the other is treatment.

3Will treatment hurt?

The area is fully numbed, so the appointment itself is comfortable. Gums can feel tender for a day or two afterwards and sensitivity to cold is common for a short period. Both settle.

4Can gum disease be cured?

Gingivitis, the early stage, genuinely reverses. Once bone has been lost the aim shifts to stopping further loss and holding the position, which is very achievable with treatment and regular maintenance visits.

5Do you take my insurance?

If your policy lets you pick your own dentist, you can almost certainly use it at our Newhall office, and we will file the claim for you so your insurer reimburses you directly. Periodontal treatment is usually covered as necessary rather than cosmetic, which works in your favour here.

6I am nervous about the dentist. What do you do differently?

First appointments in Newhall are deliberately booked long so nothing gets rushed, and everything stops the second you lift a hand. Plenty of the people who walk in here have avoided a dentist for years. You will not be lectured about it.

Still not sure?Ask us before you book. Smyle Dental Newhall will answer.
