Smyle Dental – Dr. David Zaghi / Root Canal

Root Canal in Santa Clarita, CA

A root canal saves a tooth that would otherwise have to come out. Around 25 million are carried out every year, and the reputation the procedure still carries has not kept up with how it is actually done. At Smyle Dental Newhall it is done under effective local anaesthetic, and the aim throughout is to keep your own tooth in your mouth.

What we treat

Root canal services offered in Santa Clarita

01

What a root canal actually does

It removes bacterial infection from the root canal system inside the tooth, where the pulp has become infected or inflamed. Taking out the source of the infection is what stops the pain and lets you keep the tooth, rather than losing it and dealing with the gap afterwards.

02

Gentle treatment, even if you are dreading it

Severe infection is treated with precise technique and effective local anaesthetic. Dr. Zaghi treats a lot of people who have put this off out of fear, and appointments are booked longer than standard so nothing has to be rushed.

03

Modern endodontics, built around saving the tooth

The approach is deliberately conservative. Advanced technique clears the infection while preserving as much of the structure of the tooth as possible, because the more of your own tooth survives the procedure, the better it holds up over the following years.

04

A crown to finish, and to protect

A treated tooth needs its strength back. We finish the treatment with a custom crown that protects the tooth and restores full function, matched to the teeth around it so the result is not obvious when you smile.

05

Why we would rather not extract

Preventing an unnecessary extraction is a core part of how this practice works. Keeping your natural tooth avoids the bone loss that follows a gap, and avoids the additional cost and treatment time of replacing it with an implant or a bridge later on.

06

Same-day emergency root canals

Severe pain from an infection is not something to wait on. Both offices hold time each day for urgent cases, so if an infection is causing significant pain or putting your wider health at risk, call as early in the day as you can.

Aftercare, and what recovery looks like

Proper aftercare is what decides whether a root canal holds for decades or causes trouble again. Smyle Dental Newhall gives you written post-procedure instructions rather than a verbal summary you have to remember on the way home.

Antibiotics are prescribed where needed to clear any remaining infection, and we set out what to eat, what to avoid, and what level of discomfort is normal in the days afterwards so you are not left guessing whether something has gone wrong.

We also book the follow-up before you leave. The tooth is checked once it has settled, and the permanent crown is fitted when the tooth is ready for it rather than to a fixed schedule.

Why people stay

Six things we do differently

01

Good with nervous patients

First visits are booked longer on purpose so nothing is rushed, and we stop the moment you raise a hand. Most new patients tell us they have put this off for years.

02

You see the plan before the drill

Images, options and the cost in writing first. The least invasive option that actually solves the problem is the one we recommend.

03

Two offices, one dentist

Santa Clarita and Bakersfield run to the same standard with Dr. Zaghi at both. Book whichever is closer, or move between them.

04

932 Google reviews, 4.9 stars

The average dentist in Bakersfield sits at 4.3 stars across a handful of reviews. This practice holds 4.9 across 932 reviews, 822 in Bakersfield and 110 in Santa Clarita.

05

We file your insurance claims for you

You may be able to use your own dental insurance if you have a policy that allows you to choose your own dentist. If this is the case, we are happy to file your insurance claims for you so that you can be reimbursed by your insurance company.

06

Same-day emergency slots

Both offices hold time open each day for pain, swelling and breakages, because those never arrive on a convenient schedule.

I got my wisdom teeth removed here and it went great! Doctor Zaghi did such an amazing job and made me feel really comfortable the whole time he was super nice and friendly . The procedure was quick and way less scary than I expected. Also the staff were super nice, kind , and helpful too. Thank you

1Is a root canal as painful as people say?

The reputation is out of date. The procedure is carried out under effective local anaesthetic, and for most people the pain they arrive with, caused by the infection itself, is considerably worse than anything they feel during treatment. Tenderness for a few days afterwards is normal.

2Why not just take the tooth out?

Because the gap causes its own problems. Losing a tooth means bone loss in the jaw underneath it, and the teeth either side can drift. Replacing it later with an implant or bridge costs more and takes longer than saving the tooth now.

3How do I know if I need one?

Persistent pain, sensitivity that lingers after something hot or cold, swelling, or a tooth that has darkened are all worth getting looked at. A cracked tooth can let bacteria reach the pulp even when it does not look serious. An assessment at Smyle Dental Newhall will tell you either way.

4Will I need a crown afterwards?

Usually yes. A tooth that has had a root canal is more brittle than it was, and a crown protects it from fracturing under normal biting force. We fit it once the tooth has settled, matched to the colour of the teeth beside it.

5Do you take my insurance?

You may be able to use your own dental insurance if you have a policy that allows you to choose your own dentist. If this is the case, we are happy to file your insurance claims for you so that you can be reimbursed by your insurance company.

6I am nervous about the dentist. What do you do differently?

First visits are booked longer on purpose so nothing is rushed, and we stop the moment you raise a hand. Most new patients tell us they have put this off for years.

Still not sure?Ask us before you book. Smyle Dental Newhall will answer.
