Four routes to the same general outcome, with real differences between them. Porcelain resists staining and lasts longest. Composite is built up directly on the tooth in a single visit and costs less. Prepless options and Lumineers remove little or no enamel, which keeps the tooth intact underneath, though they only suit certain cases. At the Newhall consultation we work through which of the four fits your teeth and your budget, rather than steering you toward one by default.

Two to three visits, start to finish

The first visit is planning, shade selection and scanning. The second is preparation and temporaries, if your chosen option needs preparation at all. The third is fitting the finals. Between visits your veneers are made specifically for your teeth, which is the part that takes the time.

1How long do veneers last?

Porcelain commonly serves for well over a decade with good care, composite for a shorter period before it needs refreshing. What shortens either is grinding, biting nails, and using your front teeth as tools.

2Will they look obviously fake?

Not if they are planned properly. The giveaway is always veneers that are too white, too flat and all the same length. We plan shade and proportion against your own face, and you approve the design before anything is made.

3Does fitting them damage my teeth?

Traditional porcelain veneers need a thin layer of enamel removed, which is permanent. Prepless options and Lumineers remove little or none. Which is appropriate depends on your teeth, and we will be straight with you about the trade-off.

4Can I whiten veneers later?

No. Porcelain and composite hold the shade they were made in and do not respond to bleach. That is exactly why we whiten your natural teeth first where whitening is part of the plan, then match the veneers to the final shade.

5Do you take my insurance?

If your policy lets you pick your own dentist, you can almost certainly use it at our Newhall office, and we will file the claim for you so your insurer reimburses you directly. Most insurers treat veneers as cosmetic, though there is sometimes cover where a tooth is being restored after damage. We will check yours properly.

6I am nervous about the dentist. What do you do differently?
